Rights

Rights is the rulebook: what an asset may be used for, until when, and what happens when the answer is no. Open the rules from the rights route.

License windows

A license window is a date range written in plain words, for example "Editorial, until 2027-03-01". The end date is inclusive: the asset is cleared through that date and not after it. An asset whose window has passed is treated as unapproved until a new decision is recorded in review.

Rights records

Every rights record carries the same fields:

{
  asset: 'harbor-light',
  rights: 'Approved',
  license: 'Editorial, until 2027-03-01',
  decided: '2026-11-01',
  reason: 'Editorial use cleared by the rights holder'
}

The reason field is required: a record without one cannot be audited, and an audit is the whole point of keeping records.

Warnings

Warnings appear wherever an asset is shown, and they use three states:

A warning is never decorative: it states the state and the action it requires, in the same place the asset appears.

Restricted assets

Restricted assets stay inside the workspace. They do not appear in exports, they do not join collections, and their warning follows them into every listing. Only a new decision in review lifts a restriction.
